Citation: L., Sp. Pl. 440 (1753).

Derivation: De l'Obel gave the name of Sagina spergula to the plant now known as Spergula amensis, probably as a Latinisation of Spergel, the German name of this plant.

Description:
Annual herbs; leaves linear, clustered, with scarious stipules.

Capsule opening by 5 deep valves opposite the sepals; seeds numerous, biconvex, more or less winged.

Distribution:  5 species in temperate regions.
