Description:
Tufted annual or evergreen rhizomic perennial herbs; stems flattened; leaves both basal and cauline, linear, equitant.
Inflorescence cymose; spathes herbaceous, paired, opposite, leaf-like; flowers several, small, actinomorphic, exserted on long pedicels; floral tube very short; perianth-segments equal, forming a cup around the stamens and the style, spreading above; stamens included; filaments connate; anthers small, dorsifixed; style deeply 3-fid with flliform entire branches spreading between the anthers; stigmas minute, terminal; ovary globular.
Capsule globular, on a long flliform pedicel; seeds numerous, rounded; aril absent.
