Description:
Pale-green lax annual, 10-25 cm high; leaves and bracts flat, grass-like, usually with pale sheaths; culms without nodes below the inflorescence.
Spikelets pale, or occasionally the glumes reddish on the side, 0.9-1.2 cm long, subsessile ot pedicellate in clusters of usually 1-3 in the axils of the leafy bracts; hypogynous bristles minute or absent.
Nut broadly oblong or elliptic in outline, acute-apiculate, rather abruptly cuneate to the prominent base, 1.2-1.5 rarely 2 x 0.8-1 mm, subequally trigonous with raised ribs in cross section, sides convex, pale-green (including the ribs), dark-spotted or fuscous and more or less shiny at maturity, coarsely reticulately pitted in longitudinal rows, about a third of the length of the glume.
