Description:
Trees with usually unbranched trunks covered with leaf bases, dioecious; leaves imparipinnately compound with numerous narrowly linear-lanceolate pinnae, some of the lower pinnae spine-tipped.
Panicle axillary, much-branched, with 1 spathe bract; flowers sessile, in the axils of bracts; outer pcrianth fused, 3-toothed or 3-lobed; stamens 3-9, on short filaments; cageIs 3, free; stigma terminal; male flower with or without an aborted ovary; female flower with 6 staminodes.
Drupe enclosed in the perianth, with a large seed; endocarp hard, with a longitudinal groove.
