Description:
Slender glabrous annuals; leaf blade subulate.
Inflorescence a slender articulated spike; spikelets 1-flowered, sessile, solitary, distichous and half-embedded in the alternate notches in the rhachis of the spike; glumes 2, side by side in front of the lemma, stiff, 5-nerved, closing the cavity in the rhachis; lemma shorter than the glumes, hyaline, sub-1-nerved (with very short lateral nerves); each spikelet falling off entire attached to its joint of the rhachis.
