Description:
Bulbs globose, c. 1 cm diam.; tunics whitish, vertically ridged, ciliate with long hairs; bulbils produced from the old bulb on stolons to 15 cm; stem 0; leaves c. 15; petioles 4-10 cm, with a few hairs, bases modified as scales of the bulb; leaflets 3, cuneate-deltoid to obcordate, 1-2.5 cm long, 1-3 cm broad, lightly notched, glabrous or with some hairs above, more or less pubescent below, mostly ciliate.
Peduncles 8-15 cm, with 1-3 flowers; sepals lanceolate, 6-7 mm long, sparsely pubescent, 2 calli at the apex; petals pink to purple, c. 20 mm long.

Taxonomic notes:
The name for this species is that used by Lourteig (MS, 1980). However, as the type publication consists only of a poor illustration without a description, some recent authors, treating this as invalid, have used the name O. braziliensis Knowles & Westc. (1838) Fl. Cab. 2:67.
