Description:
Treelike, to 5 m high, joints flattened, oblong to orbicular, 10-25 cm long, pubescent; areoles close-set, with many yellow glochids; spines 1-3 at first then several later, to 7 cm long, white, bristle-like; leaves deciduous.
Flowers yellow, to 7 cm across; fruit c. 5 cm long, white to red, aromatic and edible.
