Common name: Mallee honey-myrtle, D'Altons melaleuca.
Description:
Tall shrub 2-3 m high, glabrous except for the sparsely pubescent young shoots; leaves alternate or rarely in whorls of 3, compressed, narrowly linear-lanceolate, 4-8 mm long, c. 1 mm broad, obtuse and slightly reflexed at the apex, wrinkled and with 2 rows of large glands distinct and nerves indistinct on the lower surface, petiole c. 0.5 mm long.
Flowers in lateral clusters of 1-6 on a very short axis; subtended by several scarious ovate bracts in 4 series; hypanthium cup-shaped, c. 2.5 mm long; sepals narrowly triangular, c. 1 mm long; stamens in bundles of 8-16, pale-cream; claw c. 1.5 mm long; free parts of filaments 2-4 mm long, in 2 series.
Fruit corky, thick, cup-shaped, 3-4 mm long, 4-5 mm diam., in clusters on old wood.
