Description:
Annual to 35 cm; leaf blades to 12 cm x 5 mm, acute to obtuse, generally glabrous but occasionally scabridulous above; spike to 20 cm, being more than half the length of the culm, often curved.
Rhachis stout, 1.5-3 mm diam.; spikelets 3.7 x 1.3 mm, with 2-4 florets, sunk in the rhachis; glumes exceeding the length of the spikelet and generally appressed to the rhachis even at maturity; lemma unawned.

Restricted to maritime environments and inland saline depressions.
