Citation: Kunth, Enum. Pl. 2:268 (1837).

Synonymy: Hypaelyptum microcephalum R. Br., Prod. Fl. Nov. Holl. 220 ( 1810). , Rikliella australiensis

Common name: Button rush.

Description:
Annual, with slender stems and filiform basal leaves; involucral bracts like the leaves, usually 2, longer than the inflorescence.

Spikelets many-flowered, usually 3 together in a terminal cluster, ovoid, 3-4 mm long; glumes narrow, pointed; style branches 2.

Nut compressed, linear-oblong, about as long as the hypogynous scales.

Distribution:  S.Aust.: NW, MU.   All mainland States.   South East Asia.

Conservation status: native

Flowering time: March — April.
