Description:
Stems simple; rootstock a creeping rhizome.
Flowers dioecious; spikelets of both sexes several-flowered; perianth-segments 6 or 5; stamens and styles 3, the styles united in the lower part so as to appear like a 3-branched style; ovary 1-celled.
Fruit a small dehiscent capsule.
