Lagunaria

Citation: Reichb., Consp. 202 (1828).

Synonymy: Hibiscus L. sect. Lagunaria DC., Prod. 1:454 (1824).

Common name: None

Description:
Trees with the young parts covered by peltate scales; leaves alternate, entire, large.

Flowers bisexual, pedunculate in leaf axils, showy; epicalyx of 3-5 segments connate as a shallow cup with or without caducous segments; sepals fused to form a campanulate tube with the 5 lobes shorter than the tube; petals 5, large, pink; staminal tube cylindrical, adnate to the corolla; stamens numerous; carpels 5, in a single whorl; stigmas 5, clavate.

Fruit 5-celled, loculicidal; seeds several, reniform, glabrous.

Distribution:  1 species in eastern Australia, Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island.
