Description:
Perennials; leaf blades flat, somewhat rigid; ligule short find often ciliate.
Inflorescence a spike-like panicle; spikelets all alike and generally in pairs, unequally pedicellate, disarticulating from their pedicels; glumes subequal, membranous, 3-9-nerved, enveloped by long silky hairs from their bases and the callus; lemmas 2, usually much shorter then the glumes, hyaline, awnless, the first sterile or male, the second bisexual; palea hyaline, nerveless.
