Common name: Silky guinea-flower.

Description:
Small procumbent to erect shrubs often under 50 cm high; branchlets silky-villous or velvety; leaves linear to lanceolate or oblanceolate sometimes broadly so, subobtuse, with margins revolute but usually not reaching the narrow midrib, 4-30 x 2-5 mm, silky or softly stellate-tomentose on both surfaces or the upper surface scabrous with rather long simple stiff hairs to almost glabrous.

Flowers 12-30 mm across, terminal or on short branches, sessile among the dense floral leaves or with a short thick peduncle especially in fruit; bracts at the base of the calyx 0 or a few of the floral leaves somewhat reduced; sepals or at least the outer 2 villous or silky-villous, lanceolate to broadly ovate, 6-15 mm long; petals deeply notched, often villous on the midrib, longer than the sepals; stamens 8-20, on one side of the carpels.

Carpels 2, densely pubescent, with 4-8 ovules in each carpel.
