Description:
Coarse tussocky perennial; stems rigid, slender, over 1 m high; leaves all at and near the base of the stems, long, flat or channelled, 1-2 mm broad, with long brown broad open sheaths.
Spikelets with 2 flowers, the lower male, the upper bisexual, numerous in a dense globular head, c. 12 mm diam., with a few broad short involucral bracts at the base; glumes subdistichous; stamens ?3; style 3-fid, enlarged and hispid towards the base.
Nut crowned by the narrow pubescent base of the style.
