Description:
Low spreading shrub 0.3-0.9m high; branchlets persistently densely raised-tomentose; leaves spreading, often decurved, rigid, sessile, narrow-oblong and subterete, rarely narrow-ovate and thick, 0.2-1.2 cm X 1-3.5 mm, coarsely appressed-tomentose, quickly glabrescent, scabrous through prominent tubercles 0.05-0.1 mm long, margins recurved and meeting, so obscuring the lower leaf surface, apex obtuse, narrowed abruptly into a mucro 0.05-0.1 mm long.
Racemes terminal, umbelliform, with 1-7 flowers; rhachis, pedicel and perianth externally densely raised-brown-pubescent; rhachis 1-1.5 mm long; pedicel 3-7 mm long, red, the flower obliquely inserted owing to the very oblique torus; perianth 6-10 mm long, red throughout, with the tube dilated towards the base, narrowed below the recurved globular limb which reaches halfway down the perianth, densely hirsute around the summit of the ovary, sparser above, glabrous below, splitting fully down one side only; gland prominent, thick, semi-circular, oblique; ovary almost sessile, white- and brown-hirsute; style extended well above the perianth, 18-22 mm long, red, moderately densely raised-brown-tomentose to the base of the pollen-presenter; pollen-presenter yellow, a concave disc with a broad short central cone.
Fruit ovoid, 11-15 mm long, raised-tomentose, vertically inserted on a pubescent c. 8-10 mm long stipe, with a terminal erect tomentose persistent curved style; young seed narrow-ovoid, with a broad groove on one side lined by a very narrow yellow wing extended at the seed apex into a short pale caruncle-like protuberance.
