Grevillea huegelii

Citation: Meissner in Lehm., Pl. Preiss. 1:543 (1845).

Synonymy: Not Applicable

Common name: Comb spider-flower (or grevillea).

Description:
Prickly prostrate to spreading shrub to 2 m high; branchlets persistently appressed-pubescent; leaves spreading, rigid, pinnatipartite, 1-3 cm long, with 3-5 spreading linear pungent segments 0.4-2 cm X 1-2 mm, smooth and glabrous above, with 2 sericeous grooves between the recurved margin and glabrescent midrib.

Racemes c. 10-12-flowered, up to 3 at the end of short branches; rhachis, pedicel and perianth externally densely appressed-pubescent, rhachis 0.6-1.5 cm long; pedicel 6-8 mm long, pink; torus oblique; perianth 15-24 mm long, pink, the limb paler, slightly curved, splitting fully down one side only; gland large, horseshoe-shaped, obscured by the toms; pistil glabrous, red; ovary on a long gynophore; style 10-12 mm long, spreading away from the open perianth; pollen-presenter an oblique concave disc raised in the centre.

Fruit obliquely inserted on a long pedicel and gynophore, flattened, broad-ellipsoid, 10-12 mm long, smooth, glabrous, with an obliquely inserted glabrous persistent style.

Distribution:  Clay, loam or sandy soils, on flats, dunes or cliffs, in sclerophyllous shrubland or woodland.
