Gratiola pumilo

Citation: F. Muell., Linnaea 25:431 (1853).

Synonymy: G. pumila, orth. mut.; G. peruviana L. var. pumilo (F. Muell.)Benth., Fl. Aust. 4:493 (1868) as pumila. , Gratiola sexdentata

Common name: Small, slender, erect, rarely decumbent perennial, 4-35 cm high, with sessile glands obscure; branches erect to shortly prostrate, at the base glabrous or rarely with scattered ?glandular or eglandular hairs; leaves narrow-ovate to narrow-ovate-elliptic, 0.5-2.5 x 0.1-0.8 cm, sessile, stem-clasping to narrow-cuneate, serrulate to entire, acute, glabrous or with scattered, tiny to coarse, eglandular hairs.

Description:
Flowers solitary in the axils, sometimes only 1 at a node, on minutely ?glandular-puberulent or glabrous pedicels 0.5-7 rarely 9 mm long; bracteoles linear, three-quarters the length of to slightly longer than the sepals; sepals narrow-ovate to linear, unequal, 2-5.5 mm long, glabrous or with a few short eglandular hairs and/or minutely ?glandular-puberulent; corolla to 7-9 mm long, white; staminodes 2, filiform, attached towards the base of the corolla.

Capsule broad-ovoid, 2.7-6 mm long, topped by the caducous style 1.5-1.8 mm long; seed 0.4-0.7 mm long, dark-brown, with white high fine longitudinal ridges and lower cross-walls.

Distribution:  In damp ground, seasonally inundated.

S.Aust.: NL, MU, SL, SE.   N.S.W.; ?Vic.; ?Tas.

Conservation status: native

Flowering time: Nov. — Jan., April.

Biology: Not Applicable

Taxonomic notes: Possibly conspecific with G. sexdentata R. Cunn. ex Cunn., Ann. Nat. Hist. 1:459 (1838) of New Zealand. The original spelling 'pumilo' is correct, being a rare substantive form.
