Description:
Perennial herb to 30 cm high, with a short rootstock; basal leaves forming a spreading rosette, lanceolate, attenuate at the base, acute, 3-6 cm long, 3-7 mm wide, entire or dentate, pubescent with short pale-headed glandular hairs and appressed simple hairs; stems ascending, terete, pubescent, scape-like, to 30 cm long.

Flowers in a terminal leafy raceme or subumbellate cluster; bracts leaf-like, fasciculate; peduncles 1.5-5 cm long, glandular-pubescent, often with simple hairs also, obscurely articulate immediately below the ovary; bracteoles absent; sepals elliptic, 3-5 mm long, pubescent, adnate to the ovary for up to one-third of its length; corolla 12-17 mm long, yellow, pubescent outside and inside, with a prominent pocket or spur usually exceeding the ovary; wings broad, subequal; auricles ciliate, to 1.5 mm wide; anthers c. 1.5 cm long; style 6-8 mm long, almost straight, villous; indusium depressed-obovate, c. 1 mm long, c. 3 mm wide, villous, with a concave orifice beset with long white bristles; ovary glandular-pubescent; dissepiment about half as long as the ovary.

Capsule globular, 3-4 mm diam.; valves entire; seeds flat, orbicular, c. 1.5 mm diam., foveolate, black, shiny, with a narrow paler wing overlapping the body.

Taxonomic notes: Goodenia quasilibera Carolin, sp.nov. Herba erecta vel ascendens usque ad 30 cm alta. Folia lanceolata 3-6 cm longa integra pubescentia pilis glandulosis et simplicibus longis adpressis versus basim sensim in petiolum contracta in rosula basali disposita. Flores in racemis vel subumbellis foliosis terminalibus dispositi pedunculis ebracteolatis glandulose pubescentibus 1.5-5 cm longis. Sepala elliptica 3-5 mm longa pro tertio parte ovahi vel minore affixa. Corolla flava 12-17 mm longa glandulose pubescens atque interdum simpliciter extus pubescens callisque intus sacco prominenti quam ovario plerumque longlore. Ovarium glandulose pubescens dissepimento circa dimidium longitudinem loculi aequanti. Indusium depresse obovatum 1 mm longum 3 mm latum villosum setis albidis 0.5-1 mm longis super labiis. Capsula globula. Holotype; Thomas River valley N of Homestead, A.S. George 2171, 10.xii. 1960 (PERTH). The specific epithet refers to the sepals which are only partially adnate to the inner floral whorls.
