Goodenia calcarata

Citation: F. Muell., Fragm. Phyt. Aust. 6:14 (1867).

Synonymy: Picrophyta calcarata F. Muell., Linnaea 25:422 (1853).

Common name: Streaked goodenia.

Description:
Annual herb to 60 cm high; stems erect to ascending, angular, often with decurrent leaf margins; leaves on petioles 1-20 cm long, obovate to elliptic or oblong, acute, 2-5 cm long, 1-3.5 cm wide, pinnatifid to lyrate-pinnatisect with dentate lobes, glabrous or subglabrous, glaucous, slightly villous in the axils.

Flowers in terminal and axillary racemes, purplish-pink in bud; bracts leaf-like to linear; peduncles 3-9 mm long, indistinctly articulate, glabrous to glandular-pubescent; bracteoles deltoid, to 1 mm long, subopposite, sometimes vestigial or absent; pedicels 1-2.5 cm long; sepals narrowly oblong to elliptic, c. 5 mm long, glandular-pubescent, adnate to the ovary for about three quarters of its length; corolla 10-15 mm long, white with brown lines, subglabrous outside, bearded at the base inside, with an anterior spur up to twice the length of the ovary and often other pockets on the posterior side; wings subequal; auricles vestigial; anthers c. 2 mm long; style c. 5 mm long, almost straight, glabrous except for a few purplish hairs near the apex; indusium transversely elliptic, c. 2.5 mm long, c. 4.5 mm wide, purple, pilose basally, with a curved orifice beset with short white bristles; ovary glandular-pubescent; dissepiment three-quarters the length of the ovary.

Capsule ovoid, 12-15 mm long, glandular-pubescent with purplish simple hairs on the prominent beak; valves splitting to the sepal attachment; seeds flat, elliptic, c. 3.5 mm long, tuberculate, yellowish, with a slightly thickened rim and a thick narrow wing.
