Description:
Annual herbs; leaves cauline, opposite, flat, simple, entire or dentate.
Capitula pedunculate, in loose terminal cymes, heterogamous, radiate, small; involucres hemispherical to campanulate; bracts few, herbaceous to membranous, 2-3-seriate; receptacle conical, with prominent scarious scales; ray florets female, fertile, with small ligules.
Ray achenes curved, compressed, clasped by the involucral bracts; receptacular scales narrow, often 2-fid or 3-fid; pappus of bristles or absent; disk florets bisexual, fertile, tubular, pentamerous; anthers sagittate at the base, with a short rounded appendage at the apex; style branches linear, recurved, with pointed terminal appendages, papillose on the outer face; disk achenes angular; pappus of long scales, awned, toothed or fimbriate.
