Description:
Annual herbs with non-glandular tomentum; leaves cauline, alternate, sessile, entire.
Inflorescence cymose-branched with dense globose terminal clusters of capitula each overtopped by 1 or 2 branches arising immediately below; capitula minute, sessile, heterogamous, discoid; involucres conical, 4-6-sedate; bracts scarious, unequal, arranged in 5 longitudinal rows, with acuminate awn-like apices; receptacle minute, naked; outer florets 1- or 2-seriate, female, tubular; corolla filiform; style branches subulate; innermost florets bisexual, fertile, tubular; corolla narrowly cylindric; anthers tailed at the base with acute terminal appendages; style branches truncate.
Achenes slightly flattened; pappus of bristles, absent from the outermost series of female florets.
