Description:
Inflorescence axillary, cymose; peduncles filiform, bearing 1-3 flowers; bracteoles linearsubulate, 1.5-4 mm long; pedicels short to greatly exceeding the leaves; sepals lanceolate, more or less acuminate, acute, 2-4 mm long, densely hairy; corolla blue, 7-9 mm diam.; stamens inserted c. 1 mm above the base of the corolla; filaments 2-3.5 mm long.
Capsule glabrous, 3-4 mm diam.

Pantropical and subtropical species exhibiting great variation. Many intergrading varieties have been recognised, 2 of which occur in S.Aust.
