Description:
Multi- or single-stemmed trees to 15 m high but often much smaller; bark rough on stems and larger branches, subfibrous, yellowish-grey; cotyledons notched or reniform; juvenile leaves opposite to alternate, sessile, stem-clasping or petiolate, elliptic to orbicular; adult leaves alternate, on petioles 15-35 mm long, lanceolate to broad-lanceolate, thick, glossy, green, 10-27 x 1.5-3 cm.

Flowers in umbels of 3-8 in the axils of the leaves; buds sessile or subsessile, obovoid to cylindrical, 9-14 x 4-6 mm; operculum more or less conical, shorter but broader than the angular hypanthium, smooth; flowers white; anthers all fertile, obovate.

Fruits cylindrical-obovoid, 2-3-ridged at the base, with a narrow rim and descending disk, 8-9 x 7-8; valves triangular, often slightly exserted; seeds blackish, irregularly shaped, covered by depressions.
