Description:
Annual herbs, hairy; hairs branched, appressed.

sepals erect, usually dimorphic; petals long-clawed; stamens 6; median nectariferous glands present; stigma capitate, slightly bilobed.

Siliqua dehiscent, quadrangular in transverse section; mid-vein prominent; seeds in 1 row per locule; radicle incumbent.

Distribution:  About 100 species in Europe and the Mediterranean; 1 species introduced into Australia.
