Family: Eriocaulaceae
Eriocaulon

Citation: L., Sp. Pl. 87 (1753).

Derivation: Greek erion, wool; kaulos, stem; alluding to the scapes of some species.

Synonymy: Not Applicable

Common name: Pipeworts.

Description:
Annuals or perennials, usually with leaves in radical tufts.

Scapes usually longer than the leaves; flowers not exceeding the small imbricate bracts of the head; stamens twice as many as the petals, which are marked near the summit by a small dark gland; anthers reniform, 2-celled.

Distribution:  About 400 species mainly in the tropics and subtropics. The only genus in Australia, with about 20 species.
