Common name: Cane-grass, bamboo-grass.

Description:
Perennial 1-3 m high, shrubby, shortly rhizomatous; culms up to 5 mm wide and cane-like, much-branched at the many nodes; leaves coriaceous, becoming hardened and often yellowish; blades up to 20 cm long, flat and 2-6 mm wide or subulate.

Panicle 5-26 x 6-9 (rarely 22) cm, rather dense to open; primary branches up to 16 cm long; spikelets 5-13 x 1-1.8 mm, loosely 4-15-flowered, linear; rhachilla jointed, straight or slightly flexuose, internodes 0.8-1 mm long, each one partly enveloped by its attached lemma; glumes persistent, lanceolate, acuminate, rounded on the back, glabrous, faintly nerved; the lower 1.5-3.5 mm and the upper 2-4 mm long; lemmas 2.3-3.5 mm long, persistent, membranous or partly hyaline, ovate, truncate to obtuse, often notched or erose; lateral nerves about half as long as the lemma itself, often obscure; palea spathulate, splitting along a median line into two parts, keels smooth, flaps as wide as the body or slightly wider.

grain strongly compressed laterally, oblong to ovate, convex or flattened on the back.
