Description:
Perennial, with a creeping rhizome; culms to 90 cm high; leaf blades flat, 1.5-13 mm broad.
Panicle open or contracted (rarely a raceme), usually less than 15 cm long; spikelets 3-5 mm long; glumes much shorter than the spikelet (the second longer and just over half the length of the spikelet), green; sterile lemmas awnless, nearly as long as the spikelet, at least the second corrugated, glabrous, the second with 2 small scales at the base; fertile lemma almost as long as the second sterile lemma, obtuse.
