Description:
Tufted glabrous perennials; leaf blades usually flat.
Inflorescence a loose panicle, much-branched; spikelets compressed laterally, 2-flowered, the first floret sessile, the second stalked; the rhachilla continued in a hairy bristle which sometimes bears a rudimentary floret; callus small, shortly bearded around the base of the florets; glumes subequal, acute, membranous, persistent, 1-3-nerved; lemmas thin, truncate-denticulate, glabrous, with a slender dorsal awn.
