Derivation: Greek kyrtos, arched; alluding to the habit.

Description:
Rhizome short, erect, densely scaly; fronds pinnate to pinnately compound, coriaceous; veins anastomosing; sori borne on included free veinlets, covered by a peltate indusium.

Distribution:  About 12 species in South Africa, Asia to Hawaii; 1 adventive species in Australia.
