Description:
Perennial shrubs, soft-wooded; leaves in terminal clusters, opposite.

Carpels slightly connate at the base, each with numerous ovules; seeds with distinct vertical ridges.

Distribution:  An African genus of 9 species, many of which are cultivated in Australia.

Taxonomic notes: The genus has recently been redefined to clarify its delimitation from Adromischus and the segregate genus Tylecodon (Toelken (1978) Bothalia 12:377-378).
