Conyza canadensis

Citation: Cronq., Bull. Torrey Bot. Club 70:632 (1943) var. canadensis.

Synonymy: Erigeron canadensis L., Sp. Pl. 863 (1753).

Common name: Canadian fleabane.

Description:
Annual herb to 1.5 m high; stem erect, robust, sparsely branched, brownish, striate, hispid; basal leaves petiolate, oblanceolate, 2-5 cm long, 3-8 mm wide, hispid on the margins and mid-vein, shallowly dentate; upper leaves sessile, narrow-elliptic to linear, 2-6 cm long, 2-6 mm wide, hispid on margins, entire or denticulate.

Capitula very numerous in a pyramidal panicle; involucres 3-4 mm long, cylindrical; bracts subglabrous, brownish; outer florets ligulate; ligules linear, c. 1 mm long, white; receptacles 1.5-2 mm diam., deeply pitted.

Achenes oblong, c. 1.5 mm long, pale, pubescent; pappus bristles free, white, c. 4 mm long.

  Qld; N.S.W.; Vic.   Native to North America.

Conservation status: naturalised
