Derivation: From the Latin capsula, a little box; in reference to the silicula.

Description:
Annual herbs, pubescent with simple and branched hairs.

Sepals erect, non-saccate; petals clawed, sometimes absent; stamens 6; median glands absent.

Silicula dehiscent, keeled, notched; seeds in 2 rows, mucous; radicle incumbent.

Distribution:  5 temperate to subtropical species; 1 a cosmopolitan weed occurring in Australia.
