Description:
Annual herb 5-40 cm high; vestiture glandular-pubescent, often sticky; stems branched, robust, erect to ascending; leaves sessile, lanceolate to oblong, amplexicaul at the base, acute to obtuse, entire or minutely denticulate, 2-6 cm long, 3-18 mm wide, pale-green, pubescent to almost scabrous.
Peduncles leafy; capitula solitary; involucral bracts 2-seriate, 4-8 mm long, acute to acuminate, pubescent, often with dark apices; ray florets 18-30, 2- or 3-seriate; ligules linear, 3-toothed at the apex, 7-10 mm long, yellow; disk florets numerous, yellow.
Fruiting capitulum to 2 cm diam.; achenes of outer series c. 1.5 cm long, prominently beaked, spiny on their back, sometimes with inflated wings; inner achenes more strongly curved, smaller, rugose to muricate.
