Common name: Mediterranean brome.
Description:
Stems erect to 70 cm, glabrous below the panicle; leaves and sheaths hairy.
Panicle 60-100 mm, erect, sometimes loose but dense in poorly grown specimens; panicle branches scabrid, rigid, shorter than the spikelets; spikelets 20-35 x 6-8 mm, lanceolate, glabrous or slightly hairy in our specimens; lower glumes 3-nerved, 5-9 mm, the upper 5-nerved, 8-12 mm; lemma 11-20 mm, with 7 prominent nerves, 2-fid at the apex; awn 6-12 mm, flat, twisted at the base, the free end spreading horizontally at maturity.
