Brachyloma daphnoides

Citation: Benth., Fl. Aust. 4:173 (1868).

Synonymy: Styphelia daphnoides Smith, Sp. Bot. New Holl. 4:48 (1795).

Common name: Daphne heath.

Description:
Small shrub 40-80 cm high; stems grey; leaves 4.1-10 mm long, 1.7-3.6 mm wide, ovate, obovate, elliptic to almost orbicular, thick, flat to slightly concave, with a callous tip; margin entire, sometimes hyaline, and ciliolate; surfaces discolorous, dull below, glabrous or the upper surface scabrous towards the base; petiole 0.9-1.2 mm long.

Flowers cream, towards the base of the current season's growth; peduncle pubescent, 0.5-1 mm long; bracts leafy, caducous, ovate to orbicular, 0.5-2.5 x 0.51.4 mm; bracteoles and sepals broadly ovate to ovate-lanceolate, obtuse; bracteoles 1.1-1.7 x 0.6-0.9 mm; sepals 1.4-2 x 0.9-1.1 mm; corolla tube cylindrical, 4.3-5.5 mm long, with a few hairs at the throat, lobes acuminate to acute, 1.8-2.4 mm long, papillose over the lower half inside; anthers 1.2-1.9 mm long; ovary 1.1-1.3 x0.9-1 mm, glabrous, 5-celled; style 1.6-1.9 mm long, densely papillose; nectary 0.6-1.3 mm high.

Fruit depressed-globose, 2-3 x 4-4.2 mm, with a ridged or fibbed surface.

Distribution:  Occurs in eucalypt woodlands, Banksia scrub and mallee heathlands on sandy soils.
