Description:
Small annuals; leaves more or less setaceous; ligule of hairs.
Inflorescence a loose panicle; spikelets solitary, pedicellate; rhachilla disarticulating above the glumes and between the florets, usually 3- or 4-flowered; glumes very unequal, the first very short and bristle-like, 1-nerved, the second 3-nerved; lemmas all fertile, with inrolled margins so as to appear cylindrical and very narrow, inconspicuously 1-3-nerved, shortly 2-fid, awned; awn scabrid, short, straight; palea 2-fid, 2-keeled.
