Description:
Rootstock scarcely swollen; leaves all basal.
Inflorescence an often branched raceme of single flowers; perianth-segments 6, almost free, spreading, equal, oblong, 1-nerved; stamens 6, with filaments dilated and covering the ovary and with versatile introrse anthers; ovary 3-celled, with 2 ovules in each cell; style undivided, with a small 3-lobed stigma.
Capsule coriaceous, with 1 or 2 angular seeds in each cell.
