Aristida holathera

Citation: Domin, Biblthca bot. 85:340 (1915) var. holathera.

Synonymy: A. stipoides R. Br., Prod. Fl. Nov. Holl. 174 (1810), non Lam.; ,4. browniana Henrard, Meded, Herb. Leid. 54:63 (1926); A. muelleri Henrard, Meded. Herb. Leid. 54A:358 (1927).

Common name: Kerosene grass, erect (or tall) kerosene grass, white grass.

Description:
Tufted perennial (rarely annual) to 130 cm tall; leaf blades convolute, glabrous, more or less rigid, to 21 cm long.

Inflorescence 13-60 x 4-8 cm; glumes very unequal, 1-nerved, purplish to straw-coloured, mucronate to aristulare, the lower 8-14 mm long, the upper 15-24 mm long; lemma 7.5-16 mm long (including the callus of 2.5-3 mm), convolute, smooth (punctulate near the apex), with an articulation below a twisted column 17-60 mm long; awns subequal, 25-60 mm long; grain 4.5-8 mm long, with a hilum 3-4 mm long.

Distribution:    All mainland States.

Conservation status: native

Flowering time: mainly winter in the north and in summer in the south.
