Derivation: Greek argyros, silver; anthemon, flower; referring to the related genus Chrysanthemum, as many Argyranthemum species have white, rather than yellow, ligules.
Synonymy: Chrysanthemurn L., Sp. Pl. 887 (1753), partly. 22 species endemic to Macaronesia. (C. J. Humphries (1976) Bull. Brit. Mus.(Bot.) 5:145-240).

Description:
Shrubs and undershrubs; leaves cauline, alternate, dissected.
Capitula solitary or few in leafy corymbs, terminal, 1ong-pedunculate, radiate, heterogamous; involucres hemispherical; bracts herbaceous below with an expanded hyaline-scarious apex, imbricate in 3 unequal series; receptacle steeply conical, naked, pitted; ray florets female, uniseriate, ligulate; style branches linear with papillose apices.
Ray achenes trigonous, incurved, with 2 broad lateral wings and a posterior keel; pappus a minute crown; disk florets tubular, 5-merous, bisexual, fertile; corolla narrowly campanulate, glandular; anthers acute at the base with triangular apical appendages; style branches broadly linear, truncate with papillose apices; disk achenes obconical, compressed, 1-winged; pappus a minute crown or absent.
