Common name: Chaffweed.
Description:
Delicate herbs with erect to decumbent branches 1-6 cm long, quadrangular, glabrous; leaves subsessile or with a petiole to 2 mm long, alternate lanceolate to ovate, 3-5 x 2-4 mm, acute or obtuse, with a cuneate base, glabrous but papillose along the margins.
Flowers single in the axils of leaves, 2-3 mm across; pedicels absent or to 2 mm long; calyx lobes linear-lanceolate, with a cuneate base and drawn into a sharp point, scarcely ridged dorsally; corolla tubular, white to more or less tinged pink, up to half as long as the calyx; lobes ovate and drawn into a terminal point, glabrous; stamens about one-third of the corolla, with glabrous filaments.
capsule almost spherical, 2-3 mm long, surmounted by a simple style often hidden under the remains of the corolla.
