Description:
Plants with contracted horizontal rhizomes, to 50 cm high; leaf blades less than 8 cm long (usually.less than 5 cm).
Panicle capitate, ovoid to broadly oblong, to 2 cm long, but c. 1 cm broad or more; spikelets c. 9-12 mm long; lemma 8-12 mm long (including the awns), the cilia diminishing toward the scabrous awn-tips; anthers c. 4 mm long.
