Description:
Glabrous erect perennials; leaf blade inrolled; ligule very long, tapering.

Inflorescence a more or less cylindrical panicle; spikelets 1-flowered, compressed laterally, the rhachilla produced in a short hairy bristle; glumes stiff, almost equal, persistent, keeled; lemmas a little shorter, on a minute hairy callus.

Distribution:  2 species in North America, North Africa and Europe.
