Alternanthera nodiflora

Citation: R. Br., Prod. Fl. Nov. Holl. 417 (1810).

Synonymy: Alternanthera triandra

Common name: Common joyweed.

Description:
Annual herbs; stems erect or ascending; branches almost glabrous or the nodes tomentose and 2 lines of hairs along the branches; leaves almost glabrous, linear to linear-lanceolate, entire, acuminate, 2-8 cm long.

Spikes globular, 1-2 cm or more diam., often clustered, rhachis hirsute; bracts and bracteoles narrow, acute, 1-2 mm long; perianth-segments lanceolate, acuminate, 4-5 mm long, glabrous, off-white; stamens c. 0.5 mm long, staminodes 0; ovary 1-1.5 mm long, broadly notched, style very short.

Fruit not half as long as the perianth.

Distribution:  S.Aust.: NW, LE, GT, FR, MU.   All States.

Conservation status: native

Flowering time: throughout the year but apparently rarely Nov. — April.
