Family: Poaceae
Alopecurus myosuroides

Citation: Hudson, Fl. Angl. 23 (1762).

Synonymy: A. agrestis L., Sp. Pl. edn 2:89 (1762).

Common name: Slender fox-tail, black twitch.

Description:
Glabrous annual, 20-70 cm high.

Panicle cylindrical, slender, attenuated at both ends, 5-9 cm long, the branches usually bearing only 1 spikelet; glumes 6-7 mm long, shortly ciliate on the keel, united to the middle; lemmas acute; awn 10-12 mm long, inserted near the base of the lemma.

Distribution:  S.Aust.: SE.   W.Aust.; Qld; Vic.   Native to the Northern Hemisphere.

Conservation status: naturalised

Flowering time: Sept. — Dec.

Biology: It was collected in Dec. 1918 in the SE region and believed to be locally common but there is no more recent specimen in AD. Similarly in Vic., where it was formerly regarded as widely spread, its status is uncertain. (Willis (1970) A handbook to plants in Victoria).
