Description:
Stem 30-80 cm high, rigid, leafy to the middle; leaf blades grass-like, flat, 7-15 mm broad, scabrid on the margins and the keel; bulb ovoid, surrounded by numerous black bulbils.
Spathe 2-valved, shorter than the few or numerous flowers; flowers ovoid, dark- or reddish-purple in a dense globular or loose head, with or without bulbils; pedicels hidden or exposed; perianth-segments 5-8 mm long; stamens enclosed; lateral lobes of the inner filaments much longer than the central lobe.
