Description:
Slender erect annual usually 10-40 cm high; sheaths scabrid; panicle 4-9 cm long, eventually very loose, ovoid, branches very much longer than the spikelets.
Pedicels 2-5 times as long as the spikelets, abruptly thickened at the apex; spikelets 1.5-2.5 mm long; glumes often about one-half longer than the lemmas, finely scabrid on the keel, 1-veined, acute; lower lemma usually not awned; lemmas scabrid.
