Description:
Largely glabrous annual herbs; leaves short, narrow, often convolute; ligule lanceolate, glabrous.
Inflorescence a compound panicle; spikelets pedicellate, 2-flowered, the rhachilla not continued; glumes 2, subequal, as long as or longer than the spikelet, persistent, membranous, keeled, 1-3-nerved; lemmas subterete, acuminate, 2-fid, hyaline, with a fine dorsal geniculate awn from below the middle or awn 0; callus very short, bearded.
