Description:
Tufted or rhizomatous perennial, usually 20-50 cm high; leaf blades flat, slightly scabrid; ligule c. 1 mm long, truncate or rounded.
Panicle 1-20 cm long, effuse, ovoid, cylindrical or pyramidal, loose during flowering; spikelets 2-3.5 mm long; glumes 2-2.5 mm long, lanceolate, acute, scabrous on the keel; lemmas almost as long as the glumes, truncate, 3-nerved, glabrous or finely scabrid towards the base, awnless or with a very short awn from near the top; palea about half as long as the lemma; no beard or bristle.
